Iz Paehr is a disabled artist-designer working at the intersection of tactile access, critical technological practice, and trans*feminist world building. Starting from access knowledge, they challenge, hack, and reinvent socio-technical systems.

In Iz’ work, disability becomes both a motor for creativity and an epistemic position from which aesthetic practices emerge. They develop experimental tools and multisensory environments informed by crip theory, Disability Justice, and critical design practices.

Their work has been presented internationally through exhibitions, talks, and workshops at institutions including Salzburg Festival, Sonic Acts Biennale, Kansas City Art Institute, CCCB, Goldsmiths, PACT Zollverein, Künstlerhaus Bethanien, and the National Centre for Biological Sciences Bangalore. They have received fellowships and residencies from S+T+ARTS hosted by Salzburg Festival Archive and Ars Electronica, Het Nieuwe Instituut, Processing Foundation, transmediale, and Stiftung Kunstfonds.

Alongside their artistic practice, Iz regularly teaches courses on access aesthetics and anti-ableism as a guest lecturer in Art in Context at the Berlin University of the Arts and publishes academic writing in journals including Catalyst, First Monday, and TSQ. In the summer semester of 2026, Iz serves as guest professor in Information Design at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle.

Iz studied Visual Communication with a focus on New Media at the School of Art and Design Kassel Germany, including a semester in Digital Creation at Kyoto Seika University Japan. Iz lives in Berlin and can be found online at izpaehr.xyz.
